Cafe Mondegar

Mario Miranda drew on every wall here in 1932 and the jukebox never really stopped. Loud, and unapologetic.

Nobody comes here for the coffee. Come for the murals, the noise and one of the last rooms in Colaba that has not been redesigned — then go elsewhere to work.

Metro House, Colaba Causeway, near Regal Cinema, Apollo Bandar, Colaba, Mumbai 400001

Effectively unworkable: restaurant-guru records no wifi, tables are jammed together, a jukebox and live music dominate, and typical visits last minutes amid queues outside.

  • Quiet

Wikipedia records the first jukebox in Mumbai; the room is documented as a loud, music-led hangout.
